Woot! Turkey Day look! This post is going to be short & sweet because I have to get back to work (lame, I know). I am excited because I have felt really down over the weekend, and I was sick yesterday but this morning I found my Jimmy Eat World cd and that makes my day sooo much better. I played the hell out of that cd in high school, they sort of remind me of Ash a little bit. Anyway, on to better news, only a week left of school for me! I have 4 papers and one final exam and I am done until January 4th. I know come Saturday I will be back to panic state but for now I am listening to "bleed american" and all is right in the world.

This dress is owned by Lauren and it was the perfect dress to layer up on such a drizzly day since it was ironically cold and humid all at once. Here are the other two ways that I have worn this dress & stay tuned via the Here to There facebook page to see where it ends up next! Thanks to Lauren for making this cool little mix of all the ways we have worn it so far :)

Don't worry baby

Every once in awhile, when I am having a really bad week and I cannot focus for the life of me, and I am having a panic attack (okay, maybe every other day) and I need music to calm me down. The other week when I was on blogging hiatus, I played this song probably a dozen times. A day. Enjoy:

I like left-overs

As I mentioned earlier this week, we went to three dinners yesterday, the first at the Zion Lutheran Church in Ferndale, which is Kyle's family's church, where we said good-bye to some friends that are going to be moving to Florida in the next two weeks Jakie and Neil Sr. Kyle's Mom Debbie was pretty close with them, and actually helped them set up the dinner and stayed all day, Kyle and I are friends with their son Neil, but as luck would have it, we had just missed him by a half-hour. Neil is going to be staying in the mitten, so I am hoping to catch up with him over winter break, we have much Elvis Costello and Weezer to discuss.

Next we headed off to my Mom and Dad's for our main feast! My Mom actually cooks two turkey's every year, my Dad's and mine (we get them free at work). She cooks one in the oven, and one in the roaster. My oven at the apartment is too small to cook anything in because only the bottom heats up and you have to use the middle tray or else everything will burn, and therefore very little fits in it. I actually didn't cook anything this year, but I stick by the excuse of working and going to school full-time. I figure when I graduate I will attempt to cook a family meal.

Besides two giant birds, my Mom made: mashed potatoes, corn, green bean casserole, corn bread, sweet potatoes, stuffing, cranberry relish, apple, pumpkin and lemon cheesecake pie. My aunt made some yummy cheese biscuits with bacon in them too. Everything was wonderful and we even made up little Turkey Day plates for all the dogs with the scraps!

Then we headed over to Kyle's brother Rich's house and his wife Renee made up a dinner as well. Thankfully they already ate and were just snaking on everything so we did the same. Renee makes the best cheesy potatoes! All the kids were hopped up on sugar but they were cracking me up. It was nice seeing everyone because we typically only get a chance on the holidays, but I was so glad when we finally got home and had the chance to rest our feet. Kyle went straight for the sale ads and I went straight for my pajamas, seems a little out of order huh? Sadly, I had to work today so I didn't get a chance to go out, but it looks like Kyle founds some great deals online so there should be some packages headed our way in the next week! I am so excited and I can't wait to share with you guys what we got :) For now I am finishing up editing photos (you will get to see outfit photos of my Turkey Day look) and heading out to take Louie for a walk before cleaning the apartment and settling down to do yet even more homework. There will be lots of running around this weekend as well, so hopefully the next few posts will be more than homework updates.

Potter-head

hp 004

So last Thursday at midnight as most of you know, was the premiere of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows! Well just the first part, but it was amazing! I felt like a teenage girl again and I squealed every time Ron came on the screen, and giggled uncontrollably at the scene where there are multiple Harry Potter’s near the beginning, and Bill Weasely!! Hottt!! Okay, I will not spoil the movie for others, plus most of you guys who share the Potter interest have already seen it. There were a few things that were left out that annoyed me, but that always happens I guess. The best part was that during the whole movie I had to lean over and tell Kyle who people were and explain a few things, he enjoyed it though, he does not get as excited as my friend Dan and I do, but he does like the movies. There were other people dressed up at the theater, I ran into a girl that had on a similar outfit as me and we shared a geeky moment, I love meeting people with Potter enthusiasm.

After the movie was over, we went out to breakfast at National Coney Island in Royal Oak. My brother David tagged along for the movie and some food. It was funny because I was the only one dressed up and at the same time the club across the street, Luna, had let out and the Luna dancers are there on Thursday nights so the place was packed full of scantly clad women in sexy dance gear and the guys were drooling. It was mostly funny because I still had my cape and everything on at the time, but with everyone else’s get-ups, I did not feel out of place.
Now I mostly want to use my vacation week sitting on my butt reading the books all over again! But I also have my copy of David Sedaris “Holiday’s on Ice” sitting on my desk waiting to be cracked open in two weeks. I finished my 8 page Brit-lit essay over the weekend, then last night after class I finished my 5 page western religion paper, I have a 2 page follow-up one do tonight at midnight (it’s an online class) and what I really want is a nice cold PBR! I was thinking of going out on Wednesday but now I don’t want to spend the money, and Thursday we are going to Three Turkey Day dinners! I also have to work Friday, ugh. But I should be thankful that I am at a desk entering logs and mindlessly browsing the internet instead of declining people’s credit cards like I did at Best Buy four years ago. What are your Turkey day plans?

If Cross-Country were easy, they'd call it football

Can you spot me in this team photo?

Such a tom-boy :P This photo seems so surreal to me, that day I ran a seven minute mile, and a little over two miles after that, I think in around 16 minutes. I joined Cross-Country late in the season my senior year of High School and to be truly honest, I didn’t even know we had Cross-Country team. I would have joined sooner! I loved this sport because it was unique to me, I was able to be independent and yet part of a team all at once. I had played Soccer and Basketball in the past, and I ran Track in junior high, but I kind of fell in love with running. I am really hoping to start up again, even if it is once a week. Of course I choose winter to start this, but I miss it. The best part is I love running alone. I am surrounded by people all day at work and at school, and doing homework isn’t exactly quality alone time, but running feels like I am able to recharge and just function better.

It is also amazing to know where all these people are now in life, these kids that I used to sit on a bus eating Luna bars with (the guys didn’t know any better) before an invitational. The Cross-Country team was definitely the dork team, as it was the dork sport. We didn’t have a ‘home’ running course at Ferndale High School, so we were always away. I spent a lot of time with these guys, four of these people are fighting in Iraq, two have moved to Canada, one moved to New York, one went to college in Alaska on a hockey scholarship, one lives in Detroit with his girlfriend and I run into him on occasion at the pool hall in Ferndale. I guess Facebook really does keep you up to date lol. So what sports did/are you guys playing?

Squints

Well, I guess the cats outta the bag! Yep, I got my braces off finally! I mentioned it on twitter, so a few of you guys knew, but the rest of you noticed yesterday. I guess I never really noticed what a difference it made. I also have to wear a retainer, as you can see in today's pictures and it is annoying as hell but I guess that's life. It is soooo awesome buying efferdent too, I love getting strange looks when I buy denture cleaner for my retainers. -_-

I am almost in the home stretch for school, only three and a half weeks! I have so much left to do in these next weeks, I can't even count how many papers I have to do because my mind turns to mush when I try. I hate how much I miss everyone but I know that I am almost done. Hopefully this time next year I will be buying a cap and gown and posting about more than all the homework that I have to do. I also have been trying to eat well these past two weeks, I have limited the amount of meat I eat because it makes me sick. I usually stick to poultry and fish anyway, but I have been eating more whole grains and eggs. I feel better so that is good. I am not perfect by any means but sometimes I just can't choke down anymore fries. Hopefully I can keep this up, so when I do eat something like pizza I can enjoy it more, instead of feeling sick and bloated.

So as you can see, I have been editing my pictures in flickr. Yes, I have succumbed. I now have a two-year subscription and I plan on using it the crap out of it. I am not sure if I will edit the pics all the time, I know people do, but I think sometimes it doesn't make them 'real'. I am only editing them in a creative way of course, leave it to me to make the pics look Orton-ish, but what the heck, let's leave the pimples. As you can see, Kyle took these photos, I am getting kinda used to taking some on my own, but I like not having to run back and forth in front of the camera in the parking lot. It always seems like people feel like coming outside just as I am getting ready to pose too, what is up with that? Damn you people for coming outside and....stuff.

At least a break from all the craziness to see Deathly Hallows!! It is the first fun thing that I have done in awhile, I can't even remember the last movie I saw in a theater. I am planning on dressing up somehow, and work is going to be horrible the next day, but I am sooo ready to see Harry! XD

Sweet November

memee 004

For all the stress the rest of this month is leaving me with, November is so far a decent weather month. It is cold, but the perfect kind of cold. When the sun is on you, you are warm. You can layer without looking like the stay-puff marshmallow man. I am having fun piling up blankets and pillows while I study, I favor my leopard snuggie over my hoodies, I like to be cozy. However, the brisk cool air makes me really enjoy long walks with Louie and I wish that my schedule would permit more of them because a long walk really is a good refresher for me. Oh and soup! I love warming up to yummy soup.

memee 005

I think this sweater was made to be worn with this tunic no? It kind of reminds me of a blanket. I am also loving these new clogs from F21 (thanks for the birthday money Mom!!) I have gotten more and more used to heels thanks to this blog and the best kind are thick chunky ones. I will have to get a better pics of them next time as I took these pictures. I kind of like the back of the apartment as a backdrop, you get some industrial-yet homey aspect as well as a faint hint of nature....aka the back of a fugly building and some over-grown bushes. I also think I am going to have to suck it up and buy a flickr account this week. I seem to have better luck with flickr than photo bucket. Oh and please excuse the Oompa Loompa hair as I hacked my bangs too short the other week.

Hello From Lauren

Heyo! It's Lauren from Sparrow & Urchin as well as Sara's neighbor :) As many of you faithful She is Sara readers have noticed Sara has dropped off the face of the internet... Well I'm here to tell you I saw her in the library this weekend and she is ok! As you know the end of the semester is coming up and workload is piling up, so Sara is off getting her brain working and writing papers galore. And to show you how studious she is, here is a snapshot proving she is well, and studying up a storm. Funny thing is I was at the library all Saturday afternoon studying for a research paper, and I didn't realize Sara was there to until Kevin spotted her and dragged her to my table. Kyle picked Sara up later and they were kind enough to give me and Kevin a ride home, I didn't think about walking back with 7 big art history books! :)

Look at her all studious

So in honor of Sara slaving over her course work I thought I'd share some of my favorite pictures of our fun and silly times together.

See I didn't meet Sara until this Spring although we have been living a block away from each other for way over a year. I started posting pictures on Weardrobe, then upgraded to a style blog where I started making more connections. I remember finding her and thinking sweet she's in the Detroit area... Then being more of a creeper I noticed her building in pictures, and wrote probably a staulkerish email saying... Hey do you live on so and so? Cause I live right beside you. Haha. Then Kevin, Kyle, Sara, and I took our dogs out for a walk to go get ice cream. It was the first time we met but we just clicked perfectly.

IMG_2463

The best thing of the night? As we were walking back I heard the sound of horses, we all turned around and behind us were 13 people riding horses being trained for I guess mounted police... It was surreal, we all followed the group of horses until we had to split to get home. I think it was an omen on how awesome our friendship would be.

I'm so happy I have Sara in my life and so honored to have her in my wedding party, that's right I'm going to make her wear a hideous bridesmaid dress... haha!

Huggles,
Lauren
